| Allis Shad, a color-printed wood-engraved print by Benjamin Fawcett, after an illustration by Alexander F. Lydon, published in 1879. This print appeared in the Rev. William Houghtons British Fresh-Water Fishes, one of the best-known color plate books of the Victorian era. The delicate color is heightened by hand-applied gum arabic. Very good condition, with just a trace of a finger smudge at left edge of sheet, easily matted out. |
