One or two miscellaneous charts are in this section, which is primarily copper-engraved coastal charts from the 15th edition of Edmund and G. W. Blunt's The American Coast Pilot, one of the most important coastal chart books of the 19th century, published in 1847. The Blunt family firm was involved in martime publishing from the issuance of the first edition of The American Coast Pilot in 1796, to the closing of the firm in 1872. Over the years, most shipmasters and officers carried a copy of one of the editions of The American Coast Pilot. Part of the fun of collecting such charts today is the distinct possibility that at some time in the past, the chart itself was used in plying the waters that are charted.
