Obtaining a Professional Opinion of Value
One of the most frequent questions any dealer in antique maps or prints is likely to hear is 'how much is it worth'? Perhaps you just discovered an antique map in a yard sale, or found an antique print online, and you want to know what the approximate value may be. As long as you are not looking for a formal, legal appraisal for estate, tax, or litigation purposes, we can certainly help give you an idea of what your antique print may be worth.
You'll see we emphasize the word 'may' be worth. That's because, since we are providing an opinion of the value of an item without seeing it 'in person,' that opinion is only an estimate, based on our assumption that the piece is an original. We cannot be sure, by looking at an image you send us, even with a description, that an item is an authentic antique print. What we can provide you with is a ballpark estimate of what a particular map or print may be worth, depending on condition and assuming it is genuine. So please keep that caveat in mind when asking for an estimate online!
Our valuation service, or as it is sometimes called in the appraisal business, 'professional opinion of value,' will include the basic data about the map or print that we are able to identify, and it typically would include the title, the mapmaker or publisher, and the approximate date of publication. If we cannot identify an item and provide a valuation, you will not be charged!
Our fee for evaluating an antique print is just $19.95 for the first item, and $14.95 for each subsequent item submitted at the same time. For more information on how to request a professional opinion of value, just send an email via the 'Contact Us' form and we will be happy to work with you.
