Carte Des Etats-Unis
Description
Simple but elegant map of the United States, published in Paris in 1857 by Louis Dussieux in his Atlas Generale. Transitional mapping of the West is pronounced: a huge Nebraska stretches to modern-day Canada; Utah reaches from California to Kansas. The 'Great American Desert' fills up much of Kansas. The map shows states and territories, cities, mountains, rivers, mountain passes, Indian tribes, and more. Many landmarks, such as the Missouri River, are wildly misplaced. A fascinating mid-19th Century U.S. map. Very good condition.
