| A very decorative map of Jamaica, published by John Tallis & Company in London in 1851. This map comes from one of the last decorative atlases ever published: R. Montgomery Martin's Illustrated Atlas. Several vignettes surround the map of the island, including Port Royal Harbour, Kingston, Port Antonio, and a sugar mill scene. The 'Seal of the Colony' is at the top of the map. The island is well-mapped, showing everything from the towns to the smallest villages. Also depicted are roads, railroads, mountains, rivers, coastal features, barracks, and even ponds and wells. A beautiful and fascinating map, in fine condition. |
