Map of Massachusetts, from the best Authorities, by A. Adams
Description
Scarce, copper-engraved map of Massachusetts, published in 1802 by Jedidiah Morse, a founding figure in American cartography. This is the second, and without question much-improved state of this map, the first being drawn by J. Denison, published in Morse's American Universal Geography. In this 1802 map, information for Plymouth, Bristol and Barnstable counties, including Cape Cod, is added. The map is important both for its information about Massachusetts at the end of the 18th Century and for its place in American cartography. It depicts cities, towns, villages, counties, roads, lighthouses, lakes, rivers, and much more. A very desirable map. Two faint folds, as issued, a little age-toning, as expected, and overall in very good condition.
