| A big, beautiful antique map of New York State, not issued in an atlas, published by Charles Magnus in 1854. With an attractive inset of Niagara Falls, and one of Long Island and the Sound. A decorative border surrounds this unusually attractive mid-19th century map of New York. The counties are colored by hand, and the map also shows cities, towns, railroads, common roads, canals, mountains, rivers, lakes, and so forth. Altogether a spectacular map. Printed on a thin, banknote type paper, as was typical of Magnus publications. This map was usually issued as a folding map, although this example was never folded. The edges of heavily chipped, but not interfering with the image area. Matting would completely mask the chips. Otherwise, very good condition. |
